A/V Receiver that switches component inputs

Hi,

If I'm understanding the specs on the A / V receivers I'm looking at, most will not convert a component input to HDMI. That leaves us using the TV to switch between component (Wii DVD player etc) and HDMI inputs. Can any receiver take all the inputs I throw at it and convert them to HDMI? Another concern is we can only get our true monitor resolution with our mac mini if ​​we use DVI. Will and DVI-> HDMI cable still let us get the monitor res when passed through a receiver? (HDMI to HDMI is rumored to limit us to 720p, the monitor res is a few pixels better).

Please help.
